Trip to Kemmangundi

Kemman means RED MUD and Gundi means HILL . The picturesque hill station of Kemmangundi is located at a height of 1434m above sea level. This was the summer retreat of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV. Ringed by the Baba Budangiri Range and blessed with silver cascades, mountain streams, and lush vegetation, Kemmangundi’s beautifully laid-out ornamental gardens and enchanting mountains and valleys views are a treat to the eye. The spectacular sunset view from the Raj Bhavan is a photographer’s delight. For the adventurous at heart, Kemmangundi offers many peaks to scale and intricate jungle paths to explore.

Its approximately 245km from Bangalore via road . Kemmangundi comes under Chikamagalur District .

Our Trip :
Date : 1st February '07 - 2nd February '07

This was the first trip for us after coming to Bangalore . We hired a Qualis to reach Kemmangundi . We started at around 11 pm . Since we started at late night , we were easily able to reach the outskirts without much hassle or the regular traffic jams . We reached Chikamagalur which is 192 kms away from Bangalore around 3.30 am . The road till there was quite good . But from Chikamagalur , it was ghat road all the way to the hill station . So it took 2 hrs to get to the top of the hill station . Finally , we were on the hill at 5.30 am . We were fortunate to see the Sunrise . As the sun rose from behind the mountains and the birds chirping , the hill station was shining with the golden rays emitted by the sun . We booked a dormitory and refreshed ourselves and started to explore this beautiful hill station .

Since we were surrounded by huge mountains , we decided to trek to one of the most taller mountain ( As seen by naked eye ) . At around 9.00 A.M. , we started to climb the rocks , mountains by pushing aside shrubs and bushes with help of sharp wooden sticks . Our Lakshya was to reach the top of the mountain . But as we kept on scaling the mountain , the peak seemed to move away from us . But we were determined to reach the top at any cost . At 11.45 A.M. , we finally reached our destination and achieved the Mission. The troop members were myself , Nareen , Sashank , Ravindra , Ravikanth , Rajashekar and Sandeep .

After achieving our so called LAKSHYAA , we started to come down and on our way visited the Rose garden . By the time we came down , the clock struck 2 pm. We decided to have our lunch . After our lunch , we hired a Jeep to have a go at the Hebbe Falls . A trek from Kemmangundi along a steep and narrow path leads to these sprightly falls. Surrounded by dense forests and coffee plantations, Hebbe Falls rush down a height of 250ft. in two stages to form Dodda Hebbe (Big Falls) and Chikka Hebbe (Small Falls.). Believe me , you will enjoy the ride in the jeep and when you get down you will appreciate the Driver's skills to drive on such a path . The falls is an absolutely beauty . You can see it right from where it is falling . The water is super cool .After spending an hour or so , we headed towards our last destination i.e. the 'Z point'. It is about 10minutes walk from this main place which gives a nice ariel view of the grass lands of the Western Ghats.

By the time we returned back , the clock struck 7 . After a hectic day , we started heading towards Bangalore . And we reached back at 2 am the next day . On the whole , the trip was simply amazing . And Enjoyed a lot . So guyz , what are you waiting for ??? Go ahead and visit this place and have a rocking experience ....
