Innofest 2007
Its 4 am Now .......
IIIT B's first ever " Tech - Fest " got underway yesterday i.e. 23rd of March 2007 . The Tech - fest was named as " Innofest " ---- Innovation being the theme of this year . After lot of preparations and campaigning , there was enough faith among ourselves that at least 75 - 100 Students will turn up for Day 1 . On 22nd night , most of us were awake and were bit nervous whether everything is well prepared or not , whether sufficient amount of laptops were available , whether the schedule was perfect or there is any clash or not etc etc ...... So it was quite obvious that nobody was going to be awake by 8 am since the inaugural ceremony was scheduled at 9 am.We were asked to assemble in the main classroom by 8.45 am . Our director , was in the campus by 7.45 am . He didn't see anybody in the campus and was worried whether everybody woke up or not ? So , he personally had to go to one of the hostels and wake up the students :P
Somehow , the students got up and were physically present at 9 am in the main classroom and the inaugural ceremony started . By that time , we had around 8 registrations from the colleges in Bangalore . As usual , all started to get anxious whether at least 40 will turn up for the entire day . But as soon as the inaugural ceremony got over people started pouring near the reception , which brought life and smile on many pale faces which had turn due to sleepless nights and low response till the inaugural ceremony . All of us were enthusiastic and got energetic when people from Hyderabad college also started to pour in .
The first event for the day was Circuitrix for which there were about 30 registrations . It was followed by Informal Quiz (Prelims), Signal Processing , Paper Presentation , Teach your Professor and LAN Games (Prelims) .
At around 1 pm , our director came and inquired about the number of participants who turned up for the fest . And according to his expectations , he said : " How many have registered ? Atleast 40 ? " . Sagar responded back to him : " Sir a good number of students have turned up ...... The headcount is about 152 students . " To this reply , our director's joy's were doubled and his eyes were lit up and his happiness was now seen on his body language also . He gathered all the faculty members and told everyone about this . He asked 2 of the volunteer students to have lunch with him so that he can get to know about the day's proceedings so far and can know what more was needed by the students so that we were all at ease . A number of pluckards were printed and were distributed among the students as " Innofest Flash News !!! " .
Myself , Sashank and Nareen were incharge of the event " Code - Butter " . Till evening , we got only 2 entries and we thought that if there aren't many teams to participate then the event must be scrapped off . But suddenly from no where we got a sheet mentioning that 7 - 8 Teams have already registered which took us by surprise . Our faces were lit up and we were jet set to go ........ We arranged 2 rooms where the event was scheduled to take place . At around 8.30 pm , we announced the rules and regulations for the event and distributed the set of questions we prepared to have . After distributing it , we discussed and clarified the doubts which various teams had .
Actually the main attraction of the day was the " Cricket Match " between India and Sri- Lanka which was a Do or Die battle for team India . To attract crowd , we offered the students accommodation in the campus and had set up a open air theater where we screened the match LIVE . The match started at 7 pm , India elected to bowl . Those who were at the college for the whole day came and occupied their places before the match had begun . Even the seniors who came after day's tiring work , chose not to go to their respective rooms and instead turned up for this mega screening which was also the FIRST in the history of IIIT B . So several chapters were being added and scripted in the history of IIIT Bangalore .
Most of them , decided upon their questions and had their dinner . After having their dinner , they turned up for some excitement at the open air theater to catch their hero on the big screen . After Inda's dismal performance in the batting department by most of the top order batsman , most of them chose to move ahead and started coding and doing google , so that they can get some re-usable code . Even I lost interest in the match once Dhoni was sent back by Murali's doosra ....... After half an hour , millions of Indian hearts broke ...... Yes , India lost to Sri Lanka by 69 runs . India were literally kicked out of the WC 2007 . But , a slight hope remained in every heart and the hope was that Bermuda should thrash Bangladesh which may open some vent for Team India to sneak through Super 8. India was the Second Asian team after Pakistan was shown the door . At around 3 am , Nareen chose to retire to bed so that in the morning he could come as a change for me and Sashank .
Since , I was getting bored , I started to check my mails , checked my Orkut scraps and after a bit of chatting I thought to pen down today's activities and I decided to write a post for the same . After controlling much of my sleep , I have successfully pen down and the needle is about to gong for 6 times . Yeah , you guessed it right !!! Its 6 in the morning ..... More 3 hours to go ........ After that I can go crashing to my bed and enjoy my favorite pass time .
