Spandan Updates - Day 1
Jadoo ( Santosh VKRN ) and Ranga came to our rescue who steadied the ship . Gurudatt then finished the innings in style with some lusty hitting in the end propelling our score to 63 .
We set a target of 65 runs from 8 overs . It was a defendable score . I gave a small talk before the start of 2nd innings and said that we are in driver seat and we should not do any experimental things . We must stick to basics . Chandru started for us and had the opponents openers in some trouble and got the important breakthrough . From the other end I was charging in and was keeping it tight so that the pressure created by Chandru remains . Chandru continued to create inroads and was running through his overs very meanly with getting a wicket in every over . After 5 overs , I decided to give the ball to Sri ( Srinidhi ), but Sri said , " Let Chandru complete his spell , he is bowling magnificently " . I took his words and asked to Chandru to complete his spell ( In a 8 over game , 1 bowler could bowl max of 3 overs ) . And that move straightaway paid dividends . The very 1st ball knocked Anil's off stump and we were running into the tail . In between , I got one run out where I had to dive towards the stumps with a single hand pick up . The runner was well short of his crease and I was really happy with my effort and someone called me great work Jonty !!! I was so overwhelmed with such a compliment that I forgot that my left arm and belly were badly bruised . I realised that after I got back to my position . The evidence can be seen from the pic as well . My apparel took a beating and was drenched with dust .
While our bowlers were keeping it tight , the batsman succumbed to the pressure and threw their wickets away ! We won the match with comfortable margin . We tasted our 1st victory in the tournament , thanks to jadoo and chandru who bagged 4 wickets . I had 2 Run-outs associated with my name .
We had a victory lapse and at the end we had handshakes with umpires and with the opposition team as well . Now , we just had to win our 2nd match to enter into " Super league " . The next match was scheduled on 10th February 10.30 AM .
Match 2 : Satish XI vs Sashank XI
In the next match , Satish XI won the toss and elected to bat first . In their allotted 8 overs , they posted a healthy total of 87 runs in 8 overs . In reply , Sashank's XI scored 75 Runs with magnificent contributions from their ace batsmans " Yorker Boy " ( Ravikanth ) and " Neo " ( Nareen ) .
Match 3 : Prabodh XI vs Nitin XI
This match was by far was the most excited and thrilling in the day . Nitin XI won the toss and elected to bat first . Prabodh XI made early inroads by picking up 4 wickets in 3 overs for just 8 runs ! Ravindra and Mahesh Reddy bowled superbly to keep the opposition guessing . But a great partnership between Nirav and Rudra Prakash shattered the hopes of Prabodh's XI to get them out for a cheap score . They took the score from 8/4 ( 3 overs ) to 81/4 ( 8 overs ) . Nirav was the most attacking of the two . He hit 4 sixes in the last over of Mahesh Reddy much to the disappointment of their captain Prabodh and his team mates .
Prabodh's XI innings started on a cautious note with Ducky ( Rajashekar ) and Dakshina Murthy making sure that no damage was done in the early part of innings . DK Murthy then decided to open himself and hit some lusty blows . Every time he would clear the rope he would punch his fist . I particularly loved that scene coz it was time to pay back ! Even I do it , but I become over aggressive and I get a piece of advice by my loving and caring friends :-) .
In a bid to accelerate the score , Ducky lost his wicket . In went Chandu , and the scene changed . Nobody on the field could ever imagine that what was going to happen in the next 15 minutes . Chandu started off with a glorius straight hit over the ropes . The very next ball he tried to do the same but instead hit it very high . The ball was caught by the fielder but accidentally stepped on the boundary as well ( Actually he wasn't able to control his excitement ) . After a bit controversy and with the crowd getting involved with umpires , I decided to have a go at the umpires and the crowd as well . I told them , it would be umpires decision and if people other than them would try to involve they will be well out of the tournament . The umpires decided in the batsman favor and signalled it as 6 .
By that time Chandu had gathered his cool and knew where to hit exactly . The next few overs were like an army testing its missile ranges . He wanted to take the attack to its opposition. Chandu unleased his power and completed a 14 ball 50 !!! Amazing man .... I never saw someone hitting the ball so efficiently and clearing the boundary so easily . He single handedly changed the course of the game and now Prabodh's XI was in drivers seat . We all ran onto the ground and congratulated him . He didn't stop there . He hit three more sixes and completed the match in style ! They completed the match in just 5.2 overs !
Incredible stuff !!! Prabodh was overwhelmed and we jumped together in celebration . I think after SA vs Aus match , this was another match which was never to be missed.
